Kulturkreis Tournee
Starting in the 2024/25 season the Kulturkreis will send young, exceptional musical talents on a "Kulturkreis Tournee" to renowned festivals.
A stepping stone for young musicians
The funding provides future prizewinners with stage experience in the field of instruments and singing - from experimental performances to large-scale solo concerts with orchestral accompaniment.
The festivals that have joined forces for the first round of the "Kulturkreis Tournee" include:

Profile and support
Our program is designed to provide direct support for musicians. The funding includes:
- Support for two prize winners with prize money totaling €15,000
- Performance opportunities at the partner festivals of the "Kulturkreis Tournee"
- Premiere of a commissioned composition
The profile: Musical pioneers
We are looking for outstanding, innovative musicians and singers under the age of 30 who live in Germany and build bridges to the audience with an independent artistic voice. Initial competition successes and stage experience are desirable but not a prerequisite.
The selection process: transparency and excellence
The selection process is based on a nomination principle. Partner festivals and renowned consultants each propose two talents. These proposals form the longlist. From this list the finalists for the public selection concert are determined in a multi-stage process.

Partner of the Kulturkreis Tournee
Competition "Ton & Erklärung"
Since 2007 untill 2023, the Kulturkreis has organised the annual music competition "Ton & Erklärung" (Sound & Explanation). Emerging musicians were invited to present an outstanding musical performance and a convincing explanation of their interpretation. The contest, conducted in cooperation with ARD Radio, alternated yearly between piano, violin, cello, and voice. In addition to receiving prize money, winners were given the opportunity to perform a debut of a commissioned composition and to make additional concert appearances.
